Introducing a new kind of menstrual leave

FYI, this was created pre-pandemic.

For International Women’s Day (IWD), M&C Saatchi wanted to do more than pink cupcakes.

So we introduced an initiative empowering women to WFH when they’re experiencing menstrual pain, giving them the confidence to say so.

Why? Because periods are physically and socially uncomfortable. The pain from cramps can be debilitating, yet no one talks about it. Over one third of Aussie men feel it’s an ‘unprofessional’ topic to discuss in the workplace.’

Role: creative strategy, concept, writing, launch to national network

On IWD, we it launched it to hundreds in our agency over a Bloody Mary, and since, have trained management to help have convos with staff who choose to WFH and provided access to women’s health info.

And we made sure staff had access to products, whenever they needed them.

The flyer read…
“We’ve put these [period products] here for your comfort and convenience, but actually, if you’re not feeling well enough to be here today, speak to your manager about our Working From Home. Period initiative.
Because sometimes, when you need a day, you just need a day.”

No, not a sick day. A day to work on the couch with your laptop and a heat pack on your stomach. Where you can curl in a ball if you need to. And devour a tub of ice cream / a block of a chocolate / arguably enough lunch for two, privately.
Nice one M&C
